About Us

In 1890, an intrepid group of life insurance professionals gathered in Boston, Massachusetts, to found the National Association of Life Underwriters.

Over the years, we have stood at the forefront, serving as the champions of our profession, recommending progressive reform and opposing unnecessary change. We have supported the states' rights to regulate the insurance industry and have worked alongside Departments of Insurance to promulgate an effective national framework of regulatory oversight. We have worked diligently with the federal bureaucracy to develop substantial firewalls protecting consumers from unwanted intrusion into their daily lives.

At the turn of the 21st Century, our profession was offered new opportunities. The financial services marketplace began to become consolidated. As this monumental movement began to take shape, our organization met this challenge by expanding our boundaries and embracing all proponents and practitioners within the financial services marketplace.

In 1999, we shed our old image and adopted a new, more encompassing, more inclusive persona. We are now known as the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors – Pennsylvania. We are the premier organization representing the interests of nearly 2,000 people who are in the business of providing life, health and multiline insurance and related financial services. Our membership encompasses 20 local associations throughout Pennsylvania. As part of the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors, we are under a federation that represents 55,000 insurance and financial advisors nationwide, in 900 state and local associations. Founded in 1890, NAIFA is the nation's largest financial services membership association. Its mission is to advocate for a positive legislative and regulatory environment, enhance business and professional skills, and promote the ethical conduct of our members.
